The Gottman Institute

I spent several years at the helm of brand and design for The Gottman Institute. I was proud to cultivate a strong foundation of design for the company as their trainings and workshops help thousands of couples strengthen their relationships. My time there taught me an extraordinary amount about human relationships; from the beauty of forgiveness, to the ugliness of contempt. With this knowledge in my back pocket, I stride into each new challenge with these tools of communication and emotional intelligence.

We know that design can have a deep emotional impact. As designers, we deal with emotions throughout our creative process. Our entire job is to facilitate relationships with our users. To understand how they think and create experiences that use empathy before business needs. Designers have every tool at their disposal, so it becomes less about ‘can we do this’, and more ‘should we’. This is where emotional intelligence can help. If we want to understand what our users’ feelings and intentions are, we have to build those relationships. When we listen effectively and begin to accept influence, is when true impactful design is created.

Here is an overview of the wide scope of work I collaborated on during my time at The Gottman Institute.
